I wonder if this will be the final year of planet Earth? I hope not, still got plans to go to Afghan and I'm unlikely to get the training done and a deployment under my belt before the end of this year. Rapture, my arse!
Well, still on the same ward and about to get ready for my first of 3 night shifts. Horrendously busy late shift yesterday; I was 1.5 hours late finishing again. Lots of paperwork when there are 6 new patients to write about. It's the worst thing, the writing. We live in such a litigious society that every little thing has to be accounted for. "Analgesia offered but declined" is one example. Otherwise, if they have declined it and are later in pain then we haven't offered them any. Patients is what I'm talking about. You and me. Any excuse to get some money from the public purse. Any excuse to whinge and moan about the people trying their best for you, going without breaks and using their own time to care for you and your relatives properly. Not that any of you are bothered. To you we are just money grabbing, ungrateful public sector workers who are not worth a fair wage and fair pension.
It's going to be a frugal January, as most Januarys are. I've already decided on no booze. I'm already booking the bank shifts, early on Friday on a different ward. Not a good rate of pay but can't afford to turn it down. I owe British Gas a ton of money and I have no idea where that will come from. I haven't been putting the heating on, I'm not using the dishwasher and the washing machine gets used rarely. My hands are cold typing this. I think the frugality will stretch further than January, especially as I desperately want to see my sister in NZ at the end of the year. I saw her for a week last year and I miss her so much now.
I've just heard from a friend of mine, someone I work with. She hadn't been replying to anything I'd written on FB or the previous text I sent her. She isn't well but I had noticed she's posted something on someone else's page on Facebook. My first thought was that she was in a mood with me about something. She can be like that. She posts moody status updates on the odd occasion and I think each one of her friends wonders what they've done wrong, including me.
Well, time to get ready for my night shift. That includes downloading an episode of Dr Who onto my phone to watch on my break tonight. I found a one off episode on Itunes that I've not seen yet! So excited! Planet of the Dead, here I come...
